It would be awesome if there was a mode where:
- You start off with all territories empty
- You can place your armies on any blank space
- Connected blank spaces can be traversed like connected owned territories
This would add a whole new strategic element, as you'd have to move around a lot and even more carefully choose where you put your pieces.
