I have been in many situations where I am unable to play with all my friends because they are elsewhere. But with this feature implemented I can play with friends nearby and anyone faraway

The "Play with Friends" mode allows this already. If you cannot find that, it means you are either under 13 or have set your age to under 13. You will have to log out and restart the app to change that age setting.
