When a game gets down to two players there ought to be an option for either player to surrender and get their 2nd place ranking. This will remedy the problem of jerk players who have overwhelming forces and command of the board but fortify instead of attacking and ending the game. Simply exiting the game counts as a forfeit.
Yes, this is standard on most of the online sites. Should be quick and easy to implement too!

You can already do this by just leaving the game. In these forums, SMG support has said that exiting the game does not count as last place. You will get the place you left with.
