Fair Play Rules

To clear up any confusion in the community on what constitutes cheating we have the following Fair Play Rules.

  1. Hacking the game, in any way, is (considered) cheating.

  2. Using multiple accounts in the same game (to gain an advantage over other players) is (considered) cheating.

  3. Playing with someone you know in Global Domination is cheating.

  4. Abusing a bug or glitch or knowingly encouraging abuse of these is cheating.

  5. Creating a negative experience for other players, by actions such as spamming excessively, refusing to end games, intentionally disrupting gameplay, delaying gameplay (stalling), or abusing our reconnection system intentionally, is cheating.

  6. Don't play with anyone you know or have external communication with in Global Domination. Use Play Friends or risk a ban!

If you wish to play with people you know please use the Play with Friends mode. If you still wish to play with friends against real opponents, this must still be done via Play Friends. Please use the RISK Community's #looking_for_game feature at https://discord.gg/risk

What happens when a player is reported for any of the above?

The following action will be taken if they are found to have broken these rules;

  • If the player was (found) hacking, they will be banned from RISK entirely.

  • Although we try to warn new players who might not be aware of the rules, such a warning is not guaranteed. You might be banned by automatic or semiautomatic systems before receiving such warning.

  • Should a player be banned - Their leaderboard position and rank points are completely removed. All games they have participated in for the current season, will have game results re-ordered so that they are placed last. All of their opponents will see this minor bonus.

FAQ

Q: How do I report a player?

A: Report in-app by clicking on their avatar and clicking on the red triangle icon under their name in the Alliance Window. If you come across any suspected hacking - Create a support ticket at http://smgstudio.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new with the names of the players.

Q: Why can't I team up with my friends in Global Domination?

A: We take a "act as you would like to be acted towards" approach here. It is unfair to team up against unsuspecting player who believe they are entering a fair “free for all” game. The ranking system is designed for “free for all” gameplay, not teams.

Q: Will you be adding a team mode in the future?

A: Yes it’s our goal to release a team mode that allows you to play with friends or random allies against another team. No ETA on this currently, but you can find information here http://smgstudio.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/11000009600 .

Q: Will more be done to prevent cheating?

A: Yes, we are currently rolling out a full suite of anti cheating features. Some have already been implemented and it’s logging play now.

Q: What is the difference between forming alliances with stranger and forming one with friends?

A: There is a difference between: the informal, temporary alliances forged and broken throughout the game (which, with all its betrayal, is an integral part of RISK) and starting a game with a friend or relative as well as strangers in there. This is intentional ganking and will not be tolerated. If you just want to play for the fun of it with your friends, start a "Play with Friends" game against AI opponents.

@SMG
You're very correct. Most of Risk games are emotionally based. The strategy is usually about making sure that you don't piss anyone off. I hate playing noobs because it's all emotion. But even the higher ranked players are emotional at times. I always take the logical steps and usually play a passive game, making sure not to take too much and let players get mad at each other and leave a field for me to clean-up when the time is right. Sometimes, though. There are situations when you cannot possibly win but you can CHOOSE who is going to win. I do greatly enjoy those moments of mowing someone down to make sure he loses for whatever reason, usually based on who I think made a stupid move from a logical standpoint (less about who attacked me and knocked me out of the game) or if I think you're cheating, you can bet I will try to take you down.

Even if people cheat they don't always win. It would have to be very obvious like having 5 accounts against 1 other player and specifically working to be sure the other opponent is killed. Sometimes luck just doesn't work for the cheater. And sometimes cheating makes it difficult to win! For example, if you have 2 accounts and you're trying to keep both alive early in a 5 or 6 player game, but one gets beaten down and the correct move is to use your other account (it's his turn) to kill your other account and collect cards. If you don't, someone else will do it and win the game and that's usually what happens. Most people who cheat are actually bad at the game. I beat cheaters all the time.

I would say don't use auto-match. Their system probably looks for cheaters based on complaints and watching who you play games with. If you play more games with the same person and people claim you're cheating, you are probably cheating. I would hope they also track who's using the same google account with multiple accounts in the same game.

I doubt having friends with people you don't know flags you as a cheater. You can actually benefit by creating a friend's game with those friends and that game is immune from flagging you as a cheater. I tend to friend all of the masters and GMs and if I happen to find enough of them online, invite them to a game. Of course, if I thought you're cheating or being an idiot, I won't add you. And unfortunately, that's a lot of the masters.

I never cheated. I had been asking players to be friends, but don’t know any of them. I play auto match a lot. A couple “friends” got matched again so I received a warning. I erased all of those “friends” and still got banned. Very wrong. All I do is play whoever auto match picks. Temporary ban, but still bs. I don’t ever cheat. I lose a lot!!! If I cheated, I’d be at master or better. BS

I would propose that creating a Global Domination game for multiple players and reducing that as soon as someone signs up should be considered cheating.   It’s an obvious ploy to improve one’s ranking by beating bots and a single other player.

All players are handled the same way by our system, the most common reason for negative reports is due to wrongly concluding that a good (or bad!) strategic move by one player is then taken advantage of by another, despite there being no association. RISK has players of all ages, a skill range from new to strategy games to RISK for 50+ years, and a large majority of players make their decisions purely based on emotion, missing out on potentially better strategic plays.

Absolutely ridiculous to report people violating fair game play.  It is VERY evident that people are cheating and nothing happens.  I have report tons of people cheating.  Sometimes they are actually punished (supposedly, but how do I know).  Mostly, about 90%, are said to not be doing anything wrong.  Evidently this is a biased racially driven reporting system.

I'm banned for 7 days, why?????? There'is no reason for that, and while that, paople who I did report, never get ban, you guys ban us e inven explain why especifly!!

I’m playing a game and start doing good something interferes with my turn and makes me start over this has been happening a lot
And then there is the problem of purchases disappearing. when I buy something I own it. Either you give a refund or it’s simply theft.
You have to be able to play with friends properly. So just blocking friends from playing with you in global domination simply makes the game unworkable. If you have a problem with the social relationships between players, your setup is wrong... not the social relationships. A social game is meant to be social
I'm always tired I have narcolepsy
Wow Caprice, wow! Maybe you should only play when you’re a little less tired?
Wow I fall asleep during a couple of games and get banned!! Wow what cry baby pussies you all are

But make sure to post your complaints here first; they really make my day.

We can only assist with account issues or ban appeals via support ticket at: https://bit.ly/smgticket Regards, Luci@SMG
