Fair Play Rules

To clear up any confusion in the community on what constitutes cheating we have the following Fair Play Rules.

  1. Hacking the game, in any way, is (considered) cheating.

  2. Using multiple accounts in the same game (to gain an advantage over other players) is (considered) cheating.

  3. Playing with someone you know in Global Domination is cheating.

  4. Abusing a bug or glitch or knowingly encouraging abuse of these is cheating.

  5. Creating a negative experience for other players, by actions such as spamming excessively, refusing to end games, intentionally disrupting gameplay, delaying gameplay (stalling), or abusing our reconnection system intentionally, is cheating.

  6. Don't play with anyone you know or have external communication with in Global Domination. Use Play Friends or risk a ban!

If you wish to play with people you know please use the Play with Friends mode. If you still wish to play with friends against real opponents, this must still be done via Play Friends. Please use the RISK Community's #looking_for_game feature at https://discord.gg/risk

What happens when a player is reported for any of the above?

The following action will be taken if they are found to have broken these rules;

  • If the player was (found) hacking, they will be banned from RISK entirely.

  • Although we try to warn new players who might not be aware of the rules, such a warning is not guaranteed. You might be banned by automatic or semiautomatic systems before receiving such warning.

  • Should a player be banned - Their leaderboard position and rank points are completely removed. All games they have participated in for the current season, will have game results re-ordered so that they are placed last. All of their opponents will see this minor bonus.

FAQ

Q: How do I report a player?

A: Report in-app by clicking on their avatar and clicking on the red triangle icon under their name in the Alliance Window. If you come across any suspected hacking - Create a support ticket at http://smgstudio.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new with the names of the players.

Q: Why can't I team up with my friends in Global Domination?

A: We take a "act as you would like to be acted towards" approach here. It is unfair to team up against unsuspecting player who believe they are entering a fair “free for all” game. The ranking system is designed for “free for all” gameplay, not teams.

Q: Will you be adding a team mode in the future?

A: Yes it’s our goal to release a team mode that allows you to play with friends or random allies against another team. No ETA on this currently, but you can find information here http://smgstudio.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/11000009600 .

Q: Will more be done to prevent cheating?

A: Yes, we are currently rolling out a full suite of anti cheating features. Some have already been implemented and it’s logging play now.

Q: What is the difference between forming alliances with stranger and forming one with friends?

A: There is a difference between: the informal, temporary alliances forged and broken throughout the game (which, with all its betrayal, is an integral part of RISK) and starting a game with a friend or relative as well as strangers in there. This is intentional ganking and will not be tolerated. If you just want to play for the fun of it with your friends, start a "Play with Friends" game against AI opponents.

4 people have this question

there is not much point to even playing this game if all you do is keep banning people for nothing every few days, I am now on another 30 day ban, for what?

This is a sham fed up with this bull

Mon compte a été banni pourtant je n ai pas tricher. Cela est injuste

Forest, I completely understand how some hate the no response time, but i noted that the system wouldn't let me in casual private mode which is used for all major tournaments, qualifiers testing.....

My main point in placing this on the forum was to point out the effects of a majorly flawed interface due to sensitivity settings and my round 3 round has been forfeited.....  Zero points which can not be made up....

In addition, People in my friends lists are all the best players in the world and we never take people from random ranked games as a friend.

finally, the suspension points out how i should be able to play in the casual private mode, however, it kicks me out while trying to join...

I have had either two or three 24 hour bans... all bogus. Cheating is a real problem in Risk but monitoring and regulating cheating is an even bigger problem.

No. They will not correct anything ASAP. Feel fortunate if you get a response.

I deleted all my friends in Risk just so I would not be accused of cheating... and yet.. another 24 hour ban.

Like you, I am huge on fairness and simply don't get why anyone would want to cheat?  I mean what do you really gain? Is it worth selling yourself out to win at Risk? I don't get it.  I feel for you m friend. But if you think you are going to get an adequate reply or be treated differently in the future... you are fooling yourself!

I was just informed of the following at 6:31 PM EST.... "Your access the R:anked and Public Casual Games has been suspended Due to violation of the Risk Fair Play policy. This suspension will end on July 29th 2023 at 6:31 PM......

Why and What was this for? I never abuse or play with friends unless it's in casual play mode playing in the Legions Tournament, Random Tournament, Grand Master Tournament.... If I played with someone on my list of friends i don't even except Friend requests  unless they are top ranked players in the world.... this is a mistake and must be corrected immediately. If It has not been lifted by 9:00 pm (My streaming time of the Random World championship, I will point out this operations shortcomings live on the strean..... ) In addition, three other participants will be airing this conversation live on twitch YouTube and discord)....

I am one of the biggest fair play advocates in the world. however, when i have been accused of something i didn't do without discussion is will defend myself.....

This also needs to be removed from my record......

With the above being said, I am sure you will correct it asap

Regards

Do what I do - play something else. Got sick of this game ages ago.

For the second time, I have been unjustly accused of cheating and banned for 24 hours.  First, I don't cheat. I even removed all of my Risk "friends" to eliminate any accusation of collusion. Apparently they use an algorithm to search for suspecting cheating and it has flagged me twice. Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening again?

Back in the old days, I kept a list of people I suspected as cheaters and most names would seem familiar to me so I knew whether to boot them from my games or not. I think the most annoying thing about Risk is the number of variations you can have for a ranked game. They really should just standardize it to one set of rules (the base game on the classic map) and at most let us toggle how many players we want in the game but even that should be limited to just 4 to 6 or something like that. Then, click a button to play ranked and you're auto-matched without knowing who you're about to play. Consolidating the games like this would also allow similar ranked people to get joined together automatically. Nothing is more irritating in this game than being put up against idiots when you're an expert player.

Perhaps if they don't want us playing the same people, they should create a way to make it impossible... I would think that would be easier than expecting us to remember EVERY username and variations of those names, then checking the name of the current players on our game to the names of everyone we have played in the past dew days... I mean if I play Player 10020034534, OF COURSE I wouldn't make a mistake and know it wasn't Player 10020034535, right? This is ridiculous

Why Did I get suspended again I don't do anything wrong I use my Avatars but I paid money for those to use them so what's going on

That context does help. Sometimes, it's a political thing but it sounds like cheating to me. I can't stand fixed rules because it usually becomes a stalemate where the game only ends when someone gets frustrated and loses on purpose. If the cards can't reward you, it's really difficult to justify going after anyone. you always want the other guy to kill himself on the strongest player.

I played a game today where it became evident that there was cheating going on. 6 player game, one guy decided to go half wipe out a player. Then the player half wiped out knocked someone else out. The point of the first guy running the map was to give the next one territories to run across. With all his 1's in the way, he couldn't run. From there, I started sweeping the map and almost had the win but fell short on troops due to some bad rolls. So that guy who thought he was winning was left with just a few troops for the other guy to sweep up and get 5 cards out of. Oh wait, no. The 1st player decides to just take 1 territory for a card and passes when he could easily knock him out of the game. I knew right here that there was collaboration and predicted that the one I almost killed was the higher ranked player account he was trying to preserve. He then destroyed his cheating account to collect cards, which I thought was a smart move because doing a run on me first made no sense when I only had 1 card and his cheater account had 5. After the game ended, sure enough, the one that won was a master and the cheater account was only a beginner or whatever. I reported him before the game even ended. If he doesn't get warned/banned, I will be quite surprised.

@Briand

You raise some valid points that I did not provide the appropriate context.

1) I only play with 4.  If there were 5 or 6, sure, I would be going after the weak person

2) I only play the Advanced Europe map.  It  is the only map that the 4th person has a reasonable chance of succeeding in with random placement, that 1 extra army is nothing.   Building continents is the way to win on that map.

3) I only play with the capture the 4 capitals

4) I only play with the fixed matches, so no one can run the table

So, when you see a wide open border with 1 army on the capital and you get attacked repeatedly when you have 10-12 armies on each path, it is hard not to think cheating.

There are other scenarios in the game and suggest cheating as well.

Risk is a great game, but the cheaters are a huge problem.

@Jon_C_smith

Actually, many of these situations you  describe are what experienced players do to make a win. It really depends on circumstances, but there are times when you don't want someone else to take out an opponent. I usually only play 5 or 6 player games, so wiping out opponents is how you win the game, not taking and sitting on continent bonuses. I will leave continents undefended in favor of a strong attacking army, especially when it's time to run the map and win the game. And sometimes, an idiot tries to wipe you out and of course, I'm going to attack you to try and collect on his mistake.

I'm not saying that you weren't being cheated, but the circumstances you describe do not mean cheating. I really wonder about all of these people complaining about being banned when they're not cheating. I've done some moves that I am pretty sure made other players think I'm cheating, but I certainly am not; I am just a smart player. Don't forget that in FFA, your place in the game matters when it comes to the point distribution. SOMETIMES, you know you've lost the game but want to make sure another player gets eliminated before you are eliminated. And sometimes, I discover a cheater when I set it up for the leader to take the win by starting with the other guy, but he decides to kill me first because... that's his other account lol

Your cheating algorithms appear to not consider game play.  You see players not bother to defend a border, not bother to attack someone that has just acquired a large continent, but focus on eliminating the weaker player.   I consistently report them, but your answer is always "Did not see any further instances, closing your complaint (i.e. Not cheating)"  I'm sorry, but not defending a border to place all of your troops against another player is not game play, it is cheating, plain and simple.

You experience multiple players only attacking you, your response "not cheating" - got it

You experience players blocking your path to attack someone who attacked you, your response is "not cheating", got it

You experience 3 players taking most of your countries before your first turn, so you can only start with the minimum, your response is "not cheating", got it

Collaboration is banned, but any examples of collaboration are "not cheating" - got it

Guess cheating is like the definition to pornography, you'll know it when you see it.  Your company refuses to do anything about it.
