I've never understood alliances. You can't win while teamed up so why bother? People getting irate over other people breaking alliances and yet you are forced to. It's dumb. Just make 2v2 games possible.
Risk was at its best recently when alliances were disabled. So much better.

Alliances are now optional. If you host a game you can turn alliances off.
