The AI is absolutely terrible and it needs to be improved. It is ruining the game.
My chief complaint about the AI is that it is foolishly aggressive. It will literally decimate an opponent and sacrifice itself in the process when it has nothing to gain. The AI attacks in a way that is unlike any human player at any experience level. With an AI in the game, the advantage goes to the players who know how to get out of the AI's way. It is simply not fun to play that way.
If the game makers want the AI to be highly aggressive, that's okay. But they must first teach it to play with some sense of risk versus reward and basic strategy. Otherwise it's just an unpredictable psychopath. And no one wants to play with someone like that.
