I recently started playing Risk online recently about a month ago by having game play feed coming onto my YouTube feed. IDK why it did. I find the game enjoyable yet often frustrating. Let me explain.
My first issue is the matchmaking. Like many games with similar setups Risk needs a random skill based matchmaking. Its needs random because far to often players who know each other and will help one another by joining the same game or players with multiple accounts play both in the same game making a unpleasant and unfair gaming experience for others. It is easy to spot sometimes and I have guessed incorrectly as well. This is a issue that involves ranking systems which most take seriously so needs to be addressed. It needs to be skill based matchmaking due to ranking as well as established players could suffer a target by new players yet lose lots of ranking by dying early yet less of a issue than random matchmaking.
I also would like a detailed explanation on how points are rewarded or lost by match. I realise the higher players you beat more points and losing to lower players lose points. Yet I have had large losses with higher ranked players and marginal gains with higher ranked players. Also players who quit during game should suffer a loss and should not be able to return after minutes of leaving. This again is unfair to others as we know human players target human players over bots and those players who stayed and played it out lose out to a quitter often times.
Next ideas of not only random skill based matchmaking but also maybe battle royal style attack format. Recruiting and fortifying would stay turn by turn but the actual attacking would be all players at once attacking wherever they choose. This would speed up game some but also offers a random multi task addition to the game. Just a idea.
