Although not officially supported, I have been able to play Risk quite well on Steam on Linux by using the Proton tool for many months now. However starting today the game crashes at startup with the following error:
Failed to initialize graphics.
Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date
drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled
3D acceleration in display settings.
InitializeEngineGraphics failed
Is there any other Linux players (or a SMG employee ;) ) who can suggest a workaround or solution? I don't think the issue was introduced by a Steam change as it started right after a Risk update was installed.

Solved my own problem - if this happens to you change from Proton Experimental to Proton 7.0-3 in Properties for the game. Apparently Steam did make some sort of change to the default engine that is used to run this game under Linux.
