Yes, RISK: Global Domination is based on official rules.

We worked with Hasbro for over a year to build RISK. We reviewed and compared every single rule from Hasbro's shortlist of official rulesets from 1993, 2003 and 2010. The years 1993 and 2003 are considered to be 'classic' rules, and the goal was to first build a 'classic', version of RISK, tailored for mobile, which we could then expand over time.

Together with Hasbro, we opted for the best combination of the 1993 and 2003 rules, which are very similar. 1993 also includes some alternate rules for Capital RISK and Secret Mission RISK. You can vote to see these as future game modes in our New Feature Requests section here

We also used the 2003 board cartography–map, connections, territory names–for the Classic World Domination map. Over time we've created more maps and themes, to offer RISK fans new challenges, and each of these is reviewed and approved by Hasbro prior to release.

We understand that there have been many variations of RISK since its original release over 57 years ago. Perhaps you grew up playing a different set of official rules, or does your family have their own custom 'house' rules? If so, feel free to send us your suggestions or any questions about our game rules. We do listen to our community of passionate RISK players, and every suggestion sent is reviewed by the SMG team.
