There should be an option were while you are battling for world domination, there should be secondary objectives that give you special objects (such as defense die or starting manuever) that can help get the upper hand. You should also be able to turn this on or off in the settings.

While part of the attraction of Risk for me is it's simplicity, the added element of objectives would make Risk more exciting.

Merge this with the 2008 Risk Revised edition request. It offerseems exactly this, plus strategic locations like cities and capitals, and like you said, is still simple.
